This publication explores China’s long-standing desire to establish itself as the global hegemon. Following a brief overview of Beijing’s past efforts to restore Chinese prominence since the 1970’s, the author offers key insights into the state’s recent strategy to further its global influence, which include 1) in March 2018, Beijing crossed a major threshold with the completion of its actionable grand strategy, which outlines a path towards a new Chinese led-world order; 2) Xi Jinping and the Chinese leadership want to give priority to China’s grand strategy and foreign policy interests in order to successfully establish China as the dominant regional power by 2021 and the world’s hegemon by 2049, and more.
