In 2019, South Africa will head to the polls for its sixth general elections since the end of Apartheid. December 2017 will mark the first decisive step in the electoral process, as the African National Congress (ANC) will select their party President, who is simultaneously earmarked to run as the party’s 2017 presidential candidate. Sitting President Jacob Zuma is rallying for his ex-wife, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, to take over his position. However, this paper contends that President Zuma is also trying to ensure that Dlamini-Zuma will inherit his network of corruption and conspiracies. Should the December conference fail to bring about any meaningful change, the author suggests that the country runs the risk of sinking even deeper into a political and economic turmoil.
