This publication reflects on the apparent dangers of the Trump administration’s current strategy towards Syria and explores how Chinese interests in the region could affect potential attempts by the US to pursue a regime change. The author cautions that the US administration´s apparent inability to self-reflect and to understand the perspectives of others is dangerous. Indeed, she suggests it increases the risks of misperception and miscalculation as well as the chances that a limited military conflict could escalate into a larger war. Further, by disregarding and violating other states’ security interests, be it Russia or China, the administration could induce China to join Russia's efforts to protect the Syrian government from regime change.
