This brief highlights the problems that envelop Bahrain. They include 1) the Bahraini government's harsh treatment of Shiite groups, which continue to aggravate sectarian tensions within the country and encourage Iran to ferment added instability; and 2) the stalled attempts by Bahrain to reform its political system and economy. The brief also considers the foreign policy America should adopt towards the country.
