Yes, the author of this text believes a new security arc is emerging in the Middle East. It consists of Iran, Iraq and Syria, with Egypt, Turkey and Jordan increasingly aligning with these states in their fight against terrorism. In contrast, the US-led coalition with Saudi Arabia and Qatar continues to support jihadists who are trying to overthrow the Assad regime. This growing schism matters because the more Egypt pivots towards the former group, the less believable is Riyadh's claim that the Syrian civil war is a sectarian conflict. The probability of a realigned Middle East then looms larger, with China becoming a crucial new player in the region.
