Is Syria - and the entire Middle East - crossing a major threshold between a tormented past and an uncertain future? This text's author thinks so. To highlight why, he explores key events he believes are heralding the end of the old order within the region and beyond, including 1) Turkey and Iran’s aim to capitalize on the collapse of the region’s 'Arab-centric power hub' in order to revive their regional and global influence; 2) regional leaders’ reluctant acceptance of the new order pushed by Syrian President Assad and Russian President Vladimir Putin; 3) the escalating inner-Shiite Arab crisis and its potential impact on stability in Iraq; and more.
