This publication ponders whether China might support an independent Kurdistan. It specifically considers 1) the Kurds’ ongoing desire for statehood and how different nations have responded to it; 2) why the West’s backing of jihadist groups in Syria has led to increased support for the Kurds by China and other non-western powers; and 3) why Asian states need the Kurds in their counterterrorism coalition.
