This publication reflects on the tensions in Sino-US relations from a Chinese perspective. The text’s author contends 1) that President Xi Jinping is increasingly basing his policies on the Legalism school that stresses the importance of realpolitik; 2) given the endemic differences between US and Chinese interests, no Sino-US economic deal will be able to avert a major confrontation between the two powers; 3) China expects further US provocations rather than conflict resolution and as a result, President Xi has ordered the PLA to intensify its training and preparations for war; and more.
