This text takes stock of Egypt’s tense political environment and speculates on the role educated youth could play shaping the country’s future socio-political landscape. The danger, of course, is that the state’s attempts to silence any and all dissent could encourage Egyptian youths to align themselves with extremist groups. In order to prevent this eventuality from happening, the government must acknowledge the grievances of young people while also implementing genuine economic reforms.
