This brief argues that France currently has a pivotal role to play in two high-impact areas – 1) helping create a stronger European Union, and 2) reinforcing the transatlantic alliance. The reason for Paris’ elevated status is quite obvious – i.e., its geopolitical power in Europe is unique. It combines a positive legacy of global leadership, a rich diplomatic network, universal aspirations, global military reach, cultural influence, and economic heft.
