This issue of “Perspectives on Terrorism” devotes its attention to the organizational dimensions of the so-called Islamic State (IS). The journal’s articles specifically focus on 1) the military campaign against IS and how much of a terrorism threat the group poses to the West; 2) a historical and comparative analysis of jihadi state-building efforts and how IS fits in the project; 3) the organizational challenges the latter group faces, to include 4) its military and political operations; and 5) the viability of containment as a counterterrorism strategy.
