As the title suggests, this paper examines China´s long-term ambitions in relation to the Middle Eastern portion of its ´One Belt, One Road´ (OBOR) initiative. The text´s author specifically focuses on 1) China’s economic interests in the Middle East, including the region's potential as a source of energy and trade and 2) the potential for Beijing to expand its soft power and participation in the global arena through its engagement in the Middle East.
