This paper argues that although the recent wave of refugees to Germany has been highly stressful, the country’s willingness to help them hasn’t abated. The large number of arrivals, however, has compelled the Federal Government to differentiate between asylum seekers and economic refugees. In the former case, a societal consensus is developing on how to integrate the new arrivals permanently into German society.
