Mauro Gilli is a Senior Researcher in Military Technology and International Security. He received his PhD in Political Science from Northwestern University in 2015, with major in International Relations and minor in Methodology. He has an MA from the School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University, and a BA from the University of Turin. Before joining CSS, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Dickey Center, Dartmouth College.

In support of his doctoral research, in 2013 he was awarded the Smith Richardson Foundation World Politics and Statecraft Fellowship. In recognition of his teaching, in 2015 he received the Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award from Northwestern University. For his research he has employed qualitative, quantitative and experimental methods. His research interests include security studies, military innovations, political economy of national security, and asymmetric wars. He is currently working on a book manuscript whose provisional title is "Military-Technological Superiority: Explaining Failure and Success in Industrial Espionage, Reverse Engineering and Imitation of Advanced Weapon Systems."
