This report takes stock of what is known about the effects of transitional justice (TJ) mechanisms. It assesses state of empirical knowledge in the field by surveying the major studies produced to date. Keeping in mind that the effects of TJ policies are still unclear and hard to predict, the authors nevertheless offer a series of recommendations for TJ practitioners.
