This study focuses on the production of national ideologies in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan since 1991. The main focus of the report lies in the analysis of Kyrgyz and Tajik governments’ creation of the national ideologies. The author shows that ideologies were part of the state-building process and that they strengthened the ruling regime, rather than increasing its popularity among society. In conclusion, the author stresses the necessity of changing and even abandoning some of the existing mechanisms of national ideology construction, recognize ethnic minorities and promote civic culture in both states.
