This issue discusses a variety of topics concerning Russia, China and Central Asia. The first article draws two scenarios for the future of the region based on national interests of the countries. Other articles look at the development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and its energy cooperation, Russia's policy in the Middle East and Mongolia's nuclear challenges. Furthermore, HIV/AIDS as a threat to Central Asian security and Pakistan's role in the Afghan insurgence are examined. Finally, migration flows into Russia are depicted and possible demographic, sociological and economic implications considered.
