This paper analyses the efforts of the African Union (AU) and the international community in protecting the inhabitants of Darfur. The paper reviews the current status of civilian protection and makes recommendations for general improvement. The authors argue that urgent international action is required to support the AU's efforts and suggest deploying a multinational military force with sufficient size and operational capacity.
