This issue analyzes several contemporary political and social developments in Central Asia and the dynamic relationships that Central Asia has with Iran, India China and Russia. One article addresses the question of female suicide in post- Soviet Tajikistan not only as a religious and cultural stake, but as a problem of public health, and as evidence of strong social tensions resulting from male labor migration. Other articles address the issues of regional institutions and multilateral relations through discussions of the functions Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
