This book explores Japan's engagement with Central Asia during the post-Soviet period. Among others, it chronicles Tokyo's diplomacy toward the Central Asian states, looks at the development and remit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and highlights the centrality of Japan-Kyrgyz relations. The book also analyzes Japan's Central Asia diplomacy in the context of the country's relations with Asia and the US historically and geopolitically, and it examines Japan's energy strategy in the region.
