This paper examines US Special Operations Forces (SOF) and their role in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. It discusses in detail the unintentional difficulties that flow from the current list of SOF activities. The author argues that the SOF, as strategic national assets, are not yet fully optimized for success and advocates changes in doctrine to help minimize problems and enhance SOF utility through enhanced unity.
