This issue of the Russian Analytical Digest analyzes current Russian military thinking. First, Marcel de Haas examines the drafting process and the final text of the 2010 Russian military doctrine. Second, Simon Saradzhyan discusses the role of China in Russia’s military thinking. The author draws particular attention to Russia’s socio-economic and demographic problems in the Far East and Siberia. This issue also includes a number of opinion polls that examine the Russian population’s perception of external military threats toward their country.
