This issue of the Russian Analytical Digest addresses Russia's stance on the current situation in Afghanistan. It reviews the Afghan problem from a Russian perspective, assesses its significance for Russian strategy and examines why Russia is cooperating with the West on this matter. Furthermore, it features statistics on the global production and consumption of opiates and on Russian attitudes to the war in Afghanistan.
