There has been little codification of international security rules concerning outer space since the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, even though the use of space for both military and civilian purposes has grown exponentially since the treaty was signed. US National Space Policy (NSP), which was released in late June 2010, suggests a new openness to international cooperation on space security. However, the review did not detail specific steps the Administration is prepared to take to achieve such cooperation.
