The Indo-US relationship is multifaceted and extends well beyond traditional intergovernmental interaction. Three different components of this relationship – people-to-people ties, business-to-business relations and government-to-government interaction – have had independent trajectories in the past but may now be converging. The increased volume of activity in each of these realms is producing a strategic effect that is greater than the sum of its parts. This paper focuses on private sector ties, both business-to-business and people-to-people, and suggests ways in which they can play a useful role in strengthening Indo-US relations.
