This article argues that with the Berlin Plus agreements all institutional arrangements required to carry out EU-led operations are in place. Furthermore, it argues that the survival of NATO depends largely on the development of credible European military capabilities. Finally, only through the development of a common defence can Europe get more "bang for the Euro". The US should, therefore, support rather than hinder further development of ESDP.
