This detailed case study of Aum Shinrikyo (Aum) suggests several lessons for understanding attempts by other terrorist groups to acquire chemical or biological weapons. This report examines a rare example – the most ambitious known effort to date of a terrorist group seeking to acquire chemical and biological weapons – and attempts to distill conclusions about the technical, organizational and psychological dynamics behind this effort.
