This issue of the Central Asia-Caucasus Analyst includes analytical articles and field reports on security issues facing the Central Asia-Caucasus region in July 2011. The analytical articles examine the elections in Abkhazia; Russia and Central Asian plans to deal with the instability arising from the Arab Spring; the potential consequences of Kyrgyzstan's decision to join the Eurasian Customs Union; and Tajikistan’s decision to restrict Islamic education. In addition, some shorter field reports provide accounts of the geopolitical rivalries arising over the transport of Caspian gas to the European market; electoral reform in Georgia; Kazakhstan's championing of enhanced cooperation between Muslim countries; and the political impasse between Armenia and Azerbaijan with regard to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
