This issue of the Central Asia-Caucasus Analyst includes analytical articles and field reports on security issues facing the Central Asia-Caucasus region in August 2011. The analytical articles examine the Central Asian ramifications of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan; the reunification of Chechnya's rebel movement; plans to pipe gas from Azerbaijan to Europe; and the low level insurgency in the Baluchistan province of Pakistan. In addition, some shorter field reports provide accounts of Russia's decision to renege on plans to finance a development program for the North Caucasus; emerging tensions between Russia and Tajikistan over military cooperation; the agreement of a new lease on the Gabala radar station between Russia and Azerbaijan; and inter-ethnic conflict between the border populations of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
