This paper examines the public opinion on arms, armed groups and security provision in Southern Lebanon. First, it reviews the background to the 2006 Israel–Hezbollah war, describing the key state and non-state security actors and armed groups present in Southern Lebanon. It then presents the Lebanon Armed Violence Assessment survey and its results, followed by a brief discussion of the implications for Lebanese stakeholders and supporters seeking to improve human security in the region.
