This issue includes analytical articles and field reports on various themes in the Central Asia-Caucasus region in September 2004. The articles analyze the flawed elections and the conflict in Chechnya, US deepening involvement in the South Caucasus conflicts, political leadership changes in Azerbaijan, and the future of Kazakhstan's pipeline system. The field reports cover the 12th anniversary of Niyazov's presidency in Turkmenistan, aid program to fight AIDS in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan's space program and the return of conflict zone residents in South Ossetia.
