This report examines Kyrgyzstan's turbulent path since fraudulent parliamentary elections in February 2005 sparked a popular uprising. The ouster of President Askar Akayev in March 2005 raised hopes for change, but the months following the revolution have been marked by uncertainty and paralysis. The authors discuss the government's ineffective land reforms, the opposition movement, prison revolts, and the assassination of a noted parliamentarian in prison.
