This report provides an overview of issues facing the Central Asia-Caucasus region, with a particular focus on security-related topics. It includes a brief analysis of Georgia’s Rose Revolution and its implications for international assistance in rule-of-law reform, followed by a discussion of Georgia’s revolution and Russia’s strategic interest in the breakaway proto-states of Abkhazia, Adjaria, and Southern Ossetia. Furthermore, the report examines the potential of opposition groups in Turkmenistan as well as the emergence of Israel as a player in Russian and Eurasian pipeline politics before concluding with news bites and field reports from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
