After decades of failed attempts to defeat the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) militarily and flawed negotiations, a political solution to the Western Hemisphere’s oldest conflict may finally be possible. This International Crisis Group report argues that there seems to be a firmer willingness to strike a deal, as the government realizes military means alone cannot end the conflict, and FARC appears to recognize that the armed struggle enables survival but little else.
