This report focuses on the peace process in Cyprus which is currently deadlocked following the failure of the Annan Plan to reunify the island. The autors examine the roots of the current political and diplomatic impasse and ways of escaping it. They express concern about the uncompromising attitudes of the present government of the Republic of Cyprus and its blocking role in the European Union. The authors argue that the only way forward in the current environment is through unilateral efforts by the relevant domestic and international actors to sustain the pro-solution momentum in the north, inducing political change in the south, and advancing inter-communal reconciliation.
