This study discusses three aspects of Turkish-Iranian relations: its historical context up to 2002, the two countries political relations under the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the economic relations between Ankara and Teheran since AKP took power in Turkey. Specifically the author addresses topics such as regional ambitions, the ‘Arab Spring’, sectarian divisions, energy, trade, mutual investments and the impact of economic sanctions against Iran.
