This special report sheds light on the direct and indirect impacts of unplanned explosions at munitions sites (UEMS) incidents. It aims to raise awareness of the problem and to point out the kinds of international technical and financial support available to address unstable ammunition stockpiles and restore safety to areas after an undesirable explosion has occurred. Above all, it suggests ways in which countries can improve physical and security stockpile management (PSSM) and find sustainable solutions to deal with their surplus weapons and ammunition.
