This detailed case study of Aum Shinrikyo (Aum) suggests several lessons for understanding attempts by terrorist groups to acquire chemical or biological weapons. Aum, a Japanese apocalyptic cult, dispersed sarin, a chemical weapon, in the Tokyo subway system in 1995, killing 13 people and prompting 6,000 others to seek hospital treatment. This is the second, revised and corrected edition of a report published in July 2011, now also available in Japanese.
