This paper presents a series of ideas and projects aiming to spur economic development in Afghanistan following the departure of NATO forces. Beyond this looming crisis, the authors see positive prospects for Afghanistan's economic future, driven by its favorable geographical position, abundant natural resources, and industrious population. The paper notes that while Afghanistan is awash with programs for economic development, these programs have often been put forth without due attention to ranking in terms of priority, resulting in essential measures mixed with useful but less urgent projects. As an alternative, the paper enumerates several short, medium, and long-term measures.
