Given the recent shift in the political equations in Nepal, this briefing argues for the early formation of a diplomatic Contact Group and a complementary Peace Support Group, providing for a coordinated international assistance. The authors emphasize that the international actors - India, the US, the UK, as well as the main aid donors - must form a common front in order to support a smooth transition and peace process in Nepal. They outline that the Contact Group should consist of India, the US, and the UK and focus on practical planning. The Peace Support Group would include the major donors and international financial institutions and provide planned financial and development support both during and after a peace process.
