This paper analyzes the EU's response to the financial and economic crisis and its impact on the constitutional framework and institutional balance of the Union. According to the author, the solutions are inspired by intergovernmentalism, they raise many legal concerns and may alter long-standing balances between institutions. In this context, the author argues that the Commission still constitutes the last reliable driving force towards a genuine European projects and plays an delicate role in safeguarding the common interest of the EU and Eurozone.
