This report provides an overview of inter-communal religious violence in Myanmar. It looks at the history of inter-communal tensions in the country since colonial times, the situation in Rakhine State, and the more recent violence in other parts of the country. It examines the dynamics of the violence and who may be responsible, its regional ramifications, as well as the response of the authorities. It concludes with suggestion on what more can be done to tackle the violence and extremist rhetoric.
