This paper synopsizes the "A Defence under Attack: Costs and Benefits" conference, which occurred in Rome on July 16, 2013. In discussing Italy's defense expenditures and missions abroad, the participants called for greater awareness about the importance of national defense, to include investing in future capabilities.
