This issue of the CAD reviews the presidential elections that occurred in Georgia in October 2013. The first article argues that democratic institutions in the country have indeed gotten stronger over the last year, but defining new roles for former President Saakashvili and former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili remains a challenge. The second article then examines what impact ‘non-charismatic’ leaders will have on Georgia once it’s ‘big men’ are gone.
