This brief argues that Europe should use its economic leverage with Jordan to press King Abdullah to introduce meaningful reform in the country before it is too late. In particular, the author contends that Europe should reinforce its policy towards Jordan by tying its ongoing support to reform that moves the country towards a meaningful parliamentary democracy. He states that Europe’s policy of offering the King praise for insufficient reform will not benefit the monarch, Jordan or Europe.
