This paper critically assesses the EU's response to the 2011 revolutions which swept across North Africa. The authors argue that although the EU did well to pull together a coherent response in the immediate aftermath of the revolutions, the focus of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) seems too much like an interim measure before normal politics are resumed. They conclude that a long-term strategy needs to be implemented in order to help promote European interests in North Africa as well as increase stability, prosperity and democracy.
