This brief examines the possibilities for paving the way towards a formal deal that would reintegrate Moldova and Transnistria. It argues that what both Moldova and Transnistria need from the EU are policies that encourage reforms and improve the lives of their citizens. The authors also believe that the EU should help reintegration from the bottom up by increasing its presence in the region and encouraging confidence building measures and joint economic projects.
