This comment discusses the negative impact international development actors are having on Myanmar. Basically, they are over-stretching the absorption capacity of national actors, not applying effective programming practices, and encouraging the pursuit of unsustainable solutions for the country’s problems. Given these pathologies and more, the development organizations that are working in Myanmar need to stop and think harder about the forms of their engagement, who they are partnering with, and how effectively they are adapting to changing circumstances within the country.
