This brief analyzes South Africa’s post-conflict development and peacebuilding in South Sudan. In particular, it looks at the content of these development and peacebuilding activities and lessons which can be learned from them for the future of South Africa's engagement in Africa. The authors argue that South Africa should be charting a new way forward for development assistance in Africa; one that is aligned with, and facilitates, the overarching post-conflict development and peacebuilding programs of the African Union.
