This brief looks at how Qatar's power transition in June 2013 has affected its domestic and foreign policies, as well as its influence abroad. Additionally, the brief 1) examines why Doha has retained its ties to Islamist groups, 2) assesses the main domestic and foreign policy challenges that the new leader, Tamim bin Khalifa al-Thani, will face in the future, 3) looks at how ordinary Qataris view the transition, and 4) wonders what impact, if any, it will have on the EU.
